The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit applied research division of Georgia Tech, with over 2,900 employees across eight laboratories in 20 locations. GTRI performs more than $940 million in annual research for government and industry. ASL Autonomy Technology Transition Division seeks an experienced Avionics Engineer for a full-time research faculty position.
The Avionics Engineer defines and designs military avionic systems and systems-of-systems, developing integrated system-level and hardware/software subsystem designs. Designs cover functions like navigation, tactical data links, electronic warfare, defensive countermeasures, intelligence, data fusion, and resource management. Integration occurs within aircraft, aircraft-to-aircraft, and aircraft-to-ground systems.
ATTD conducts research for Department of Defense sponsors on autonomous uncrewed aircraft programs. Expertise includes autonomous systems, systems engineering, avionics engineering, embedded software development, test and evaluation, hardware- and software-in-the-loop environments. The role applies knowledge of aircraft safety (e.g., FAA standards), security, robustness, and performance.
Analyze laboratory and flight test data for functionality and performance. Provide expertise and technical leadership through the full development lifecycle from requirements to delivery. Utilize Model Based Systems Engineering, laboratory analysis hardware, software development environments, and Agile methodologies.
Requirements
- Knowledge of aircraft safety (e.g., FAA standards), security, robustness, and performance
- Expertise in avionics functions including navigation, tactical data links, electronic warfare, defensive countermeasures, intelligence, data fusion, and resource management
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
- Proficiency in laboratory analysis hardware and software development environments
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies
- Ability to provide technical leadership through full development lifecycle
Responsibilities
- Define and design military avionic systems and systems-of-systems
- Develop integrated system-level designs and hardware/software subsystems designs
- Integrate avionics systems within aircraft, aircraft-to-aircraft, and aircraft-to-ground systems
- Analyze laboratory and flight test data for functionality and performance
- Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale deployments
- Manage sub-contractor resources supporting system engineering areas such as definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis, and implementation
- Conduct product or system design synthesis, translating requirements into physical architectures
