About this role
A B2 Aircraft Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, repair, and certification of aircraft avionics systems to ensure airworthiness and regulatory compliance. The role focuses on electrical, electronic, and avionics equipment including navigation, communication, flight control, instrumentation, and related systems. This position demands precision in all tasks to uphold safety standards.
Day-to-day duties include performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on avionics and electrical systems. Engineers troubleshoot and rectify faults in navigation, communication, and flight control systems using approved technical data. They carry out system testing, calibration, and functional checks with specialist tools and test equipment.
Work involves collaboration with B1 engineers, planners, supervisors, and flight operations teams in line maintenance airside or base maintenance in hangar. Shift-based schedules often include nights, weekends, and on-call duties. Tasks are physically demanding, requiring work at height, in confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
Certification ensures compliance with Part-66/Part-145 requirements, manufacturers’ manuals, and regulatory standards. Engineers maintain accurate records, support quality audits, report defects, and assist in diagnosing complex issues. Opportunities include providing mentorship to junior technicians.
Requirements
- EASA/CAA Part-66 B2 License (or equivalent FAA/other authority certification)
- Type ratings on specific aircraft (e.g., A320, B737, A330, business jets, helicopters)
- Completed recognized aircraft engineering apprenticeship or equivalent technical training
- Several years of relevant maintenance experience (line or base)
- Eligibility to work and sign certificates for an approved maintenance organization (AMO/MRO)
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Proficient understanding of aircraft electrical and avionics systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft avionics and electrical systems
- Troubleshoot and rectify faults in navigation, communication, and flight control systems using approved technical data
- Carry out system testing, calibration, and functional checks using specialist tools and test equipment
- Install, configure, and integrate avionics modifications, upgrades, and service bulletins
- Certify work performed in accordance with Part-66/Part-145 requirements
- Ensure all tasks comply with manufacturers’ manuals, company procedures, and aviation regulatory standards
- Complete and maintain accurate maintenance records, worksheets, and technical logs
- Report defects, incidents, and non-conformities through proper channels
