About this role
Boeing Global Services seeks a Senior Technical Product Owner to play a critical role in driving the successful delivery of a large-scale, next-generation pilot training product. This position focuses on owning and managing the backlog for three simulation systems workstreams within a complex, geographically distributed program. Boeing Australia is recruiting for this hybrid role based in Brisbane.
Operating in a high-paced Kanban-based development environment, the role emphasizes regular, frequent deliveries of working software. The Senior Technical Product Owner acts as the key interface between business stakeholders, engineering stakeholders, distributed development teams, and other parallel workstreams. They translate high-level business needs, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements into detailed, actionable engineering tasks.
Collaborate closely with the Product Manager, business stakeholders, and distributed development teams across time zones to refine requirements and define clear acceptance criteria. Facilitate effective communication and coordination between simulation workstreams and other program workstreams to manage dependencies and resolve cross-team impediments. Monitor and visualize workflow using Kanban boards to track cycle time, throughput, and work-in-progress limits.
Proactively identify, assess, and manage technical and delivery risks within the simulation workstreams, implementing mitigation strategies and escalating critical issues. Ensure delivered increments meet required quality standards, non-functional requirements like simulation fidelity and latency, and regulatory/compliance needs for pilot training systems. Participate in key ceremonies such as backlog refinement, Kanban replenishment, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, or similar backlog/requirements ownership role in agile software development environments
- Demonstrated ability to enhance the development and production delivery of high-quality software that meets all stakeholder requirements
- Experience managing backlogs in Kanban-based environments with frequent software deliveries
- Ability to translate business needs into actionable engineering tasks for simulation systems
- Experience working with distributed development teams across time zones
- Familiarity with non-functional requirements such as performance, reliability, and integration standards for simulation systems
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance needs for pilot training systems
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the product backlog for three simulation systems workstreams, including creation, refinement, prioritization, and grooming of epics, features, user stories, and technical tasks
- Collaborate closely with the Product Manager and business stakeholders to decompose strategic priorities and pilot training objectives into granular, technically feasible engineering items
- Work hand-in-hand with distributed development teams to refine requirements, define acceptance criteria, and break down work into manageable Kanban items for simulation systems
- Facilitate communication and coordination between simulation workstreams and other program workstreams to manage dependencies and resolve impediments
- Monitor and visualize workflow using Kanban boards, track cycle time, throughput, and work-in-progress limits to drive continuous improvement
- Capture and report progress metrics, burndown data, and status updates to project management and leadership
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage technical and delivery risks, implementing mitigation strategies and escalating critical issues
- Ensure delivered increments meet quality standards, non-functional requirements, and regulatory/compliance needs relevant to pilot training systems
