About this role

The RF/SATCOM Technician installs, sustains, troubleshoots, and repairs standard radio frequency wireless, line-of-sight, beyond line-of-sight, wideband, ground-based satellite, and encryption transmission devices. This includes multiple waveform systems, keying and signal devices, telemetry, and instrumentation systems. Technicians assemble, connect, secure, and interconnect components like transmitters, power supplies, and antenna assemblies.

Resolve installation, repair, and modification problems with communications equipment using orbiting satellite, line-of-sight, and tropospheric scatter techniques. Conduct tests to restore and maintain systems, employing layout drawings, schematics, and pictorial diagrams. Analyze equipment characteristics to pinpoint malfunctions and perform intricate alignment and calibration for maximum efficiency.

Maintain specific systems including CM-200, CM-300, GRC-171 & 211, GRR-23/24, PCAS, GRT-21/22, PRC-117F/G, and others like AN/TRC-214, SINCGARS, VSAT, and iDirect modems. Review compliance with maintenance publications and enforce safety standards during system activities. Check components against technical publications for proper installation and repair.

Maintain inspection and maintenance records, post entries, and record meter readings in equipment logs. Complete maintenance data collection forms and manage supplies through requisition, accounting, and turn-in processes. Ensure all activities support C2 systems and air control squadron operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with formal electronics training from military school, vocational college, or four-year apprentice program
  • Minimum IAT Level II and baseline certification IAW AFMAN 17-1303
  • IP fundamentals knowledge and familiarity with deployable communications systems and RF/SATCOM principles
  • Current CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Government Secret Clearance (US Citizenship required)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US CENTCOM Medical Exam
